We've recently partnered with Alma, a platform that helps us accept insurance more easily. Through Alma, we're able to work with several major insurance insurance providers. What is the difference between therapy and counseling?

The words can be used interchangeably. Different people relate to one word more positively than the other. Counseling implies advice or guidance and therapy implies change and healing. Both go hand in hand in our practice.

How do I know it's time to see a therapist?

You might know it’s time to see a therapist if there’s a persistent problem or feeling that’s been weighing on you for a while. Maybe you’ve had the sense that something in your life—or within yourself—needs to change. If the issue feels too overwhelming to handle on your own, or if you're simply tired of feeling the way you’ve been feeling, that’s a sign worth listening to. Therapy is for anyone who's ready to take a step toward something better. If you're at the point where you’re ready to do something about it, then it’s the right time.

Why do I need a therapist? Why can't I just talk to a friend or family member?

While friends and family can be incredibly supportive, they aren't professionally trained to help you grow, heal, and create lasting change--no matter how much they care. It can also be hard for them to stay unbiased, especially when they're emotionally connected to you or the situation. A trained therapist brings a different kind of support. Their role isn't to give advice or fix things for you, but to help you discover your own answers. Through thoughtful guidance and a safe, nonjudgmental space, a therapist helps you connect with what feels true and right for you--not anyone else

How long can I expect therapy to last?

Therapy looks different for everyone--it really depends on your unique situation and the issues you'd like to work through. There's no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some people come to therapy for a specific challenge and find resolution relatively quickly, while others choose to stay longer to explore deeper patterns or continue personal growth. In general, people tend to feel therapy has been successfully completed when they've worked through major challenges and feel confident in their ability to face new ones on their own, with clarity and a solid plan. Consistency is key to getting the most out of therapy. Maintaining momentum through regular sessions helps the work stay focused and effective. Most clients find that weekly sessions are the most productive, while others prefer bi-weekly or even twice-a-week appointments, depending on their needs and goals.
